Friday 30th September 2016

Fitted new lever retaining screws, and adjusted the clutch cable. Struggling with the battery I purchased, as it's simply too big. Will have to re-think and possible re-purchase a physically smaller battery. Was hoping to have the rear mudguard by now. Not far off getting the bike fit for it's first MoT in years. Hopeful to complete this year. If finances allow. 

Wednesday 28th September 2016

Swapped over the centre-stand used a spare in the garage, and the B175 can now stand on its own two feet. I messed with the brake light switch, and need to fiddle a bit longer, to get the centre panel correct I need to fettle the metal, its not going to be easy getting a good fit.

Saturday 24th September 2016

Spent awhile sorting out the headlamp on the B175, unfortunately I have lost the rear light on headlamp. It only comes on with the pilot light on. Started to put other bits on, but lost the light. I had spent the morning on the Kwak met at Stilton, and rode to Kimbolton, then onto Pure Triumph. Took the B175 round the block, a very different ride than the D7, passed 60mph on the speedo. Have taken several photos of the stand issue, lets hope it's not frame strip.

W Clips were too small. Grrrr, then tried to cut off the rubber foot rests. disaster. Bike nearly caught fire as the grinder struggled to cut, rather than burn.

Sunday 18th September 2016

Total Garage day. From 10.30am until 6pm - with a 40min break for Sunday Lunch. changed the clutch and front brake cables. Not an easy job as the clutch cable had become tangled in the feeder. Then had to modify the cabling to fit the wassel control levers. Just about finished the loom, and have finished the horn and lighting circuits. The battery I purchased is quite simply too large, and I will have to re-think. Lots of small parts arriving this week, so hopefully the coming weekend could see it finished and ready for an MoT. Fingers crossed with the weather. .....

Late PM

Ordered pvc shielding and another brake light, and a cheap flexible rear number plate. Oh, and some W clips. Hope it'll be enough to sort the bike out. 

Made good progress on the loom, dissapointingly I didn't manage to get either a replacement brake switch or some wiring sheath. But did manage to say hello to Rick and Gaz, at Wheels. Called into Ducati Peterborough took a fancy to the Ducati scrambler. Who knows.....

Removed the rear wheel, and started on the loom, not as fast a progress as hoped for, but am moving forward so thats something.

Puncture on the D7, took it back and ended up on the Kwak to Stilton. Left late, warm night lovely riding the Er5, always a forgotton pleasure.

30+ degrees C, but rode the Bantam to bike night, lovely run. Hope to get to Stilton on Wednesday evening. 

Monday 12th September 2016

Spent the evening completing the rough loom build out from my original plans. Wow, it actually works. All that remains is for me to work out the final cut lengths and start to fabricate the final loom. I am undecided to the use of the right hand switch, I may even put a small ohms meter. Best I get the soldering iron out ! Ordered a new carb 626/17, and all new control cables from Rex Caunt.

Sunday 11th September 2016

Had an hour down the Garage, putting to test my theory of the re-designed loom. Last night, I saw that their was a classic bike show at the Chatteris museum, so took a ride over on black betty via the B1050. Wow the little bike did well, made a new aquaintance by the name of Lee, who collects ex WD BSA 350's. I will have to investigate further. Rode back ,and stopped via the Mad Cat. Betty didn't miss a beat. I then spent the rest of the afternoon re-wiring Sunset. Had a snag, cheap components failed me. I have decided to rebuild the loom from the ground up, using quick release connectors not bullet connectors.


So far the right side switch is redundant. Onwards and upwards.

have taken a print of the D14/4 loom, the same as a B175 and re-working the wiring. I am hoping on Sunday, if the weather lifts to be able to start re-wiring the B175. Took Matts XT125R for an MoT to Verities, passed with one advisory, worn chain. Have started working on designing a new loom for the Cdi. Had to fit sunsets battery to get the dam XT running. GRRRRRRR. Soaked to the skin.

Friday 10th September 2016

Spent the afternoon down the garage, fitting the clutch cover back on and using the oil that was drained from the engine. I then fitted a new drive chain, and can confirm the gearbox seems to be working ( took it up the cul de sac ) I then spent the next couple of hours tightening various nuts and bolts, and replacing the D7 handleabars that I originally fitted. I noticed that the carb was spitting back a lot of fuel whilst the engine was running. I am investigating. But at only £100 for a new carb I may simply replace it. 

I do need to replace every control cable, and am tomorrow working on the loom, and electrics. 

Thursday 8th September 2016

Well fitted the Bones system to the B175, and it started second kick, better still the carb seems to be okay, with no leaks. I ran out of light so everything needs checking over very carefully tomorrow before I commit to tightening the blots and using gasket sealent. Pleased though, nice to see an old bike running again.

Spoke to Nick Bramley - Rusty Rooster garage, and a rebuild of the B175 crank will cost a very resonable 175GBP. I spent the evening down the garage, struggled to get a new primary chain fitted on the B175, but did it eventually.


I then did a dry fit of the Bones Cdi to the B175.

Had an hour on the B175 preparing the engine for the CDi unit, rather than photograph I filmed a short video.

Holiday on the Mosel, post report. The weather was brilliant albeit the last 40 miles home caught me out completely as I got soaked. The bike had a hiccup when the exhaust was seperated in Calais. Limped to Ellenz, and Michelle from the local garage managed to make a temporary repair.
