April 2017

Sunday 30th April 2017

What a day, our fifth meet at the Cross Keys, over 60 bikes turned up. Photos below. Went on the D7, later in the day I got the BSA No.3 moving under its own power for the first time.

Bike moving ( just ) under its own steam. Several major jobs still to do.

Saturday

Friday 28th April 2017

Drove over to Micks and picked up the last little bits for the BSA No. 3 - spent the afternoon trying to sort the bike out, nearly there. Hoping this Bank Holiday Monday I'll get the bike moving under its own steam. Only a few small jobs to do ...... famous last words. ....

Thursday 27th April 2017

Mick Anderson to the rescue, he's back from France and I'm hopeful that all the small parts, nuts and bolts will be obtained tomorrow.

Wednesday 26th April 2017

Some bits and pieces for BSA no.3 I am only needing a few bits, I may need to swap a few bits to get it through an MoT. But I am really hopeful of getting an Mot in Gravely on Sat 6th May.

Sunday 23rd April 2017

Rode black betty to Upwood, and had a cuppa, need to carry some spanners as the clutch needed adjusting. So will get a tool role and fit inside the case. The whole afternoon and evening until 18:30 was spent getting the wiring sorted, and adjusting the clutch on Black Betty.  Succesful day, looking forward to getting the wiring sorted.

Saturday 22nd April 2017

Started to complete the wiring on the BSA No.3 - made good progress, only the brake and horn to sort. Lovely sunny day. seem to be making progress on this bike.

Thursday 20th April 2017

Several small but essential parts came today, I popped down the garage, and fitted the front brake cable nipple and put gasket sealent on the crankcase cover. found the original screws, so the engine is as oil tight as I can make it. Ready for oil and a second engine test. Hoping to get the electrics sorted this coming weekend and an MoT in two weeks time.

Tuesday 18th April 2017

Bike night, rode to the swann on the Kawasaki, with Stuart following on the Night Rod. It was so cold so we didnt hang around.

Bank Holiday Monday AM 17th April 2017

17tharpilaftertiffin

PM - Post mid afternoon tea and tiffin.

Okay after a couple of days spannering, BSA no.3 is running, still lots to do, but with the light evenings it'll soon be ready for an MoT - engine not run in over 35 years. Smoke due to lots of oil in fuel for first run. If you look closely you'll see very few nuts and bolts holding it together.

AM - Coor Blimey it's cold out there. Slow progress today. Doing fiddly jobs. Enamel had got into the head threads, so simply attaching an exhaust turned into a 35min wire brush and banged head job. Still hoping to get an engine run before sunset. Lost a handlebar ferrule, so no front brake for a day or two. Also misplaces one nut that attaches the speedo to the Nacelle. As i said slow progress. This afternoon - electrics being wired up to bespoke loom - CDi specific. Hopeful of an MoT in April then applying for a number plate.

Easter Sunday 16th April 2017

garage fun

Started to bolt down a lot of the bits I loosley placed on the bike friday, built the rear wheel up, and started to assemble the front brake and other bits. All told a good afternoon down the garage. Still lots to do. Gallery below. Hopefully get any bits I need next weekend at Stafford.

Friday 14th April 2017

Well I had deciced that this was the day to move the D7no.3 out of the hallway, and put wheels on, to allow it to become a rolling restoration. As I attached the front wheel, the workmate turned over. Fortundately I managed to attach the wheels. After some struggling I got the bike onto the workbench. Over the coming weeks I'll slowly do the jobs needed to sort it out and get it running. Hopefully get it sorted to sell at the height of this summer, early morning I took the D7 to meet friends - first time out on "Black Betty" lovely. Need to sort the front forks out though.

Tuesday 11th April 2017

Rode to the bike night on Connington, on the B175. I MUST sort the rear light out on this bike, and I need to check the chain out ( tension) also the speedo bulb.

Sunday 9th April 2017

Early start to Uppingham, with Stuart to take part in the Easter egg run. Never again. Too many bikes.

Saturday 8th April 2017

AM
- MoT Thunderbird in gravely, only 800 miles last year.

PM - Fitted Stuarts exhausts to the HD V-ROD, lovely sound we then rode to the Cross Keys although they were closed the landlady, Hayley was good enough to serve us.

Wednesday 5th April 2017

Rode to the station on the Kwak, and called into Aldi on the way home. They have an offer on with chain wax and lube. Tightened the chain up and checked the bike over. As much as I like my winter hack, I'd love to find a bike to replace it. ER6n ?

Tuesday 4th April 2017

Drizzle stopped play this evening, this morning I ordered a metzeller front tyre for the Thunderbird, and the replacement brake lever turned up for my faithful Kawasaki. Looking forward to the ride to the Station in the morning. Drizzle, spent the whole day weather watching the weather get slowly worse. Here's hoping that the week improves.

Sunday 2nd April 2017

Sat thinking of somewhere to go, and wheeled the Thunderbird out and rode to the Krazy Horse Cafe in Bury St. Edmunds, then onto a Sufflok Pub, looked at the interesting photos on the pub wall, and into the village church. Lovely ride home, via Ramsey.
